SEMTECH CQCM is a crystal microbalance designed for continuous mass measurement of exhaust particulates. The system is comprised of eight crystals, each oscillating at 10 kHz. As the exhaust sample is pumped past one of the oscillating crystals, a corona discharge generates an electrostatic force, driving the particulates to collect on the crystal surface. As the particulates accumulate, the natural frequency of the crystal changes in relation to the mass.
The SEMTECH CQCM is comprised of eight sampling units, each with a heated inlet, an electrostatic precipitator and a quartz crystal. The multi-crystal micro balance design provides many advantages, inlcuding:
Pre-conditioning and post conditioning of crystals while one is sampling.
Extended duration of testing before cleaning of crystals is required.
Compensation for ambient conditions by designating a reference crystal.
Highly sensitive, with a crystal mass sensitvity of 100 Hz/µg.
